FCPS in Family Medicine

FCPS stands for Membership of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) recognized by PMDC, HEC, and Saudi Arabian Council. You can be appointed and promoted as as Assistant professor, Associate professor or Professor according to experience and publications in any institution.
The training is also recognized in Canada and elsewhere.

You need to take FCPS part 1 exam in Medicine to be eligible for 4 years training for FCPS

AKU, LNH and Indus offers a 4 years training for FCPS. The inductions take place every year for start of residency in January of the following year

The training program is of 4 years. First year there are 3 monthly inpatient rotations (with or without night calls, depending on institution you select) in pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery and gynaecology

In 2nd year the trainee has to attend various specialty clinics like cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology, etc

3rd year has Emergency rotation, rural rotations and family medicine rotations with electives also.
Final and fourth year is consolidation year with 1 year of family medicine practice.
After completing your residency training, attending mandatory workshops by CPSP and writing 2 research papers under a Family Medicine supervisor, you can take part 2 in FCPS. Once you clear the exam, you are directly eligible for an Assistant professor job in any academic institution or hospital
